Do Something: Host a Dinner Party

If you are new to Carry the Future, you might not know that the work we do is 100% run by volunteers. This amazing network of world changers spans the globe, and our volunteers are always thinking of new ways to get involved and do something about the refugee crisis.

Their latest feat? Hosting dinner parties to raise money to build a community kitchen in rural Jordan. Eating hummus and making a difference?! Pretty amazing. We sat down with one of our volunteers to learn more about this dinner party project. Here’s what they had to say…

What is this dinner party project, exactly?

The dinner party project is a fun way to raise awareness about the refugee crisis all while raising money to make a significant impact. You host a party by cooking some delicious Middle Eastern food for your guests. Share a meal together, listen to some great music, read the stories of refugees, and raise money to build a community kitchen.

Do I have to make Middle Eastern food?

Technically, you don’t have to make Middle Eastern food. But it might not be as tricky as it sounds. We provide all the recipes and directions, ensuring the ingredients required are things you can easily find at a grocery store. Take it from us and try it out. It’s some of the most delicious food on the planet!

dinner partyWho should I invite to something like this?

It’s totally up to you. You could certainly invited a mix of friends or family to your dinner party or you could be more selective. Invite your book club! Host your small group! Turn it into a couples date night dinner party!

How exactly will this dinner party make an impact?

The main way your dinner party will make a difference is with the donations you raise. We suggest that each dinner party set a goal amount based on the number of guests that attend. 100% of those funds will go directly to empower refugee communities like our kitchen project in Eastern Jordan. Of course, you’ll also make a difference just by hosting. Many people don’t know much about the refugee crisis or ways to get involved. Hosting a dinner party is a great way to raise awareness!

Tell me more about building this community kitchen.

We are partnering with a few other organizations to build a community kitchen in a school in Eastern Jordan. The kitchen will provide lunch to over 200 students and their teachers each school day, as well as 25 farmers and their families who live nearby. Long story short, this kitchen is going to make a huge impact. You can read more about it here.
